History

CCR Bardon is the Mother Church of Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the Archdiocese of Brisbane.  The first Catholic Charismatic Renewal gathering in Brisbane met at St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Cecil Road, Bardon in early 1970 under the guidance of Fr Vince Hobbs who remained its Chaplain up until he retired to a unit on the Gold Coast in 2014. Father Vince still maintains a close interest in what is happening at Bardon.  Healing is the particular Charism of CCR Bardon and opportunities for healing prayer continue to be available at the monthly Healing Mass and Weekly Prayer Meetings.

At the 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee Mass for Catholic Charismatic Renewal Fr Vince provided a wonderful overview of the history of CCR and the fruit which followed the original gatherings in CCR Bardon, giving rise to many more CCR groups in our Archdiocese, and leading many hundreds of people to experience the Baptism of the Holy Spirit during almost 55 years.

Please see the attachment below for Father Vince’s overview, the Archbishop’s Homily and the address by the President of CCR Brisbane during the Golden Jubilee Mass.

About Our Logo

Catholic Charismatic Renewal Prayer Meetings began at the original St Mary Magdalene’s Church Bardon in 1970. In 1977, a significant prophecy, which was recorded at the time, gave rise to the Bardon logo. The words ‘fleet of my heart’ from the prophecy have been interpreted to mean the many ministry groups and prayer groups, which have formed from members of the Bardon group, who sailed out to evangelise in a great variety of ways.

The Logo shows the sails being driven by the breath of the Holy Spirit, as we are encouraged to set our sails to windward to catch the breath of the Spirit. This symbolism was used by Pope Paul Vl (General Audience, Nov. 29, 1972), when he said “The Church needs the Spirit, the Holy Spirit. He it is who animates and sanctifies the Church. He is her divine breath, the wind in her sails.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church (Para. 845) referring to the Church says “that barque which in the full sail of the Lord’s Cross, by the breath of the Holy Spirit, navigates safely in this world.”
